Springbank House Plans

Well, the house plans are complete, they have been submitted to Planning on Friday 11th June 2004. I wonder how long it will take for their approval? I am not a religious man, but I am praying that the plans are approved without the need for us to make any major changes! I will publish them, Architect permitting, once they are approved so that all can see what we are hoping to do.

We aren't planning anything major, no new houses on the site or anything beastly, simply reworking the space that we have, to make it work for us for the rest of our lives.

This is a rough aerial illustration of how the site is set out.

We are currently occupying the roof of the Workshop area which equates to the Southern most, thin end of the property. We intend to extend slightly around the existing kitchen and move into the main house. Then refurbish the flat and the workshop so that we can rent that end out to enable us to finish the project of the main house. Finance and Planning permission permitting!

In the mean time, it is a case of strip out the old, and get the house breathing again. We are removing all of the old wall linings, plaster, cement, ceilings, skirtings, carpets, modern DAMP COURSES! Plus any other leftovers from the previous owners (five skips to date and plenty more to come).

Once we have completed the stripping out, we can start to reintroduce some sympathetic materials, namely a mountain of lime, for the floor and walls - to help it breathe more easily! Then the rest of the normal things that make a house a house, such as heating (please), water, drainage, electrics, windows and much, much more.

If you happen to be a supplier of suitable materials and are reading these pages, please contact us, whether you are or aren't in Jersey. The easiest way is to me directly by email at chris@springbankhouse.org

We are looking to perform a sympathetic rebuild using local materials, but if you have a leading edge product that will help us keep the house dry and minimise the damp problem that is currently rife, then please, please contact us. I intend to provide a selection of case studies for each suppliers work to raise the profile of the specific Companies to help them achieve better coverage in the local rebuild market in Jersey. If you fit the bill and want to raise your profile, contact me today.

One thing that we are hoping for and which is looking to be 80% certain, is to be featured in the next series of House Detectives. If this comes off, then the profile of this site will be National, can you afford not to be involved with this project?

Contact me for further details on any matter - chris@springbankhouse.org
